Rodri Hints at Future Move Amid Man City and Real Madrid Speculation

Manchester City star Rodri has sparked intrigue about his future, revealing his admiration for Real Madrid while reaffirming his commitment to Pep Guardiola and City for the time being.

Guardiola’s Contract Extension Motivates Rodri to Stay

Rodri, 28, who has been sidelined since September due to an ACL injury, celebrated Pep Guardiola’s recent two-year contract extension, which keeps the legendary coach at the Etihad Stadium until 2027.

“It’s a joy that Pep has decided to continue,” Rodri told Cadena Ser radio in Spain.
“He has been the most influential coach in my career. For the club and the fans, this is fantastic news.”

The Spanish international acknowledged that Guardiola’s decision is a significant factor in his current satisfaction at the club, stating, “It’s an important incentive for me to stay. I feel very valued and happy at City.”

Real Madrid: A Tempting Proposition?

Despite his contentment in Manchester, Rodri didn’t close the door on a future move to Real Madrid, calling their reported interest “an honor.”

“When a club like Madrid, the most successful in history, expresses interest, it’s an honor. But for now, I’m focused on City. I don’t look too far ahead, but Spain is my home, and you never know what the future holds.”

Rodri, who joined City in 2019 from Atletico Madrid, emphasized his love for English football but acknowledged his connection to La Liga and his home country.

Injury Recovery and Ambitions for the Season

Rodri, who was instrumental in Spain’s Euro 2024 triumph and named the tournament’s best player, is eyeing a return to action before the season’s end.

“Right now, my focus is on recovery. My aim is to return this season and regain my best form. With competitions like the Nations League and Club World Cup coming up, I’m determined to contribute.”

The Spaniard hinted at a possible comeback in March or April, bolstering City as they aim to reclaim dominance in the Premier League and Champions League.

Man City’s Struggles Without Rodri

Rodri’s absence has been felt deeply, with City currently sitting second in the Premier League, five points behind Liverpool, and struggling in their Champions League group, where they are 10th.

“We’re in a tough spell, but if any team can bounce back, it’s us. I’m eager to return and help my teammates. We have a strong squad and the mentality to overcome challenges.”
